Man charged with burglary after fight

ELYRIA — An Oakwood Drive man was charged with aggravated burglary and domestic violence following an early-morning incident Saturday in which he got into a fight with another man at an apartment.

Leroy Lee Wood, 35, was arrested, charged and jailed after being treated and released for minor injuries at EMH Medical Center in Elyria, according to a police report said.

Police said Wood was shirtless and covered in blood when he was located on foot in an apartment complex at 1100 Oakwood Drive.

A 28-year-old woman, who told police she was Wood’s girlfriend and the mother of his child, said he had been staying with her but left about 2 a.m. Some time later, the woman heard pounding on her apartment door, and when she went to unlock it, Wood kicked the door open, knocking her down. Reports said Wood began throwing items at her and threatened to kill her.

The woman fled on foot to the apartment of a friend, where Wood again kicked the door in and fought with a 46-year-old male occupant, who told police Wood punched him in the chest and stomach before he pushed Wood down a stairway. The two men continued to fight before Wood fell outside through a screen door.

The other man sustained minor injuries.

Police arrested Wood a short time later at his apartment.
