Authorities catch man who fled traffic stop

AMHERST TWP. — Lorain County sheriff’s deputies have taken a man into custody who fled a traffic stop in the Amherst Township area this morning.

The man was taken into custody following another traffic stop near the turnpike and 480 in North Ridgeville. He had initially fled a traffic stop in the area of Quarry Road.

The man who was described as a black male wearing a black shirt and a white hat was spotted in various locations in the area, including the Middle Ridge turnpike plaza and on Pyle-South Amherst Road.

He fled on foot for a time before getting a ride with a worker in the area in a gray Ford M350 work van.

The van was located in downtown Amherst, and the worker told deputies he dropped the man off near the westbound turnpike toll plaza.

Deputies believe the man then purchased a green shirt that said Ohio on it and got into a silver minivan headed toward Baumhart Road on the turnpike with a black female and a white female.
