Woman Tased, arrested, faces multiple charges

AMHERST — An Amherst woman was Tasered twice when she allegedly refused to stop after being chased from an apartment complex where she and two males allegedly stole numerous items from vehicles in the parking lot.

Ayla Walters, 21, of Amherst, was charged with multiple offenses including criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct by intoxication and disturbing the peace after police found and subdued the woman July 12 in a wooded area about a half-mile from the Pinecrest Apartments on Middle Ridge Road.

Police reports said Walters and two males dressed in dark clothing were chased by three police officers into a wooded area after man told them he saw three people breaking into vehicles in the complex’s parking lot, according to police.

The trio ran into the woods after a white van they tried to leave in would not start.

The two males, believed to be a 19-year-old Lorain man, and 18-year-old Elyria resident, were not found.

Police reports indicated they would face similar charges when arrested.

A search of the van revealed a large quantity of items believed to include items taken from at least a half-dozen vehicles, which ranged from GPS units, tools, a CB radio, stereo speakers, and video games, CDs and DVDs.

Police also said drug paraphernalia and boxes of 12-gauge shotgun shells were found in the van. Police said Walters told officers they were stealing from the cars to raise money to buy marijuana.
