Crushers beaten by home run in 11th

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Tim Battle’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th gave the Washington Wild Things a 5-4 win over Lake Erie on Tuesday in Frontier League action.

The Crushers (28-31) scored twice in the first inning on an Andrew Davis double and Jason Taylor’s single. They added a third run in the second on Chris Luick’s single.

Estee Harris cracked a solo home run for the Wild Things’ (26-32) first run in the bottom of the second.

Luick singled home Evan Sharpley in the sixth to put the Crushers up by three again.

A sacrifice fly in the seventh brought home Washington’s second run and Kevyn Feiner’s solo homer in the eighth pulledWashington to within one, 4-3. The tying run scored on a fielder’s choice grounder in the ninth.

The Wild Things loaded the bases with one out in the 10th, but the Crushers turned a double play to get out of the jam.

Reliever Robert Wendzicki (0-2) was the game’s losing pitcher in his first outing since July 5.
