Police were called to a 10th Street home in Elyria by some construction workers nearby after they reported seeing Howse attack the woman, Lorain County Prosecutor Dennis Will said.

A police report said Howse, who is reputedly a member of the M.A. Zone gang in Elyria, pulled her hair and hit her during an argument about whether she would stay with him and take care of him after he was shot in the thigh.

Will said although the woman refused to cooperate with police, the workers signed the charges against Howse.

Howse has drawn a string of charges over the past year, including robbery, kidnapping and weapons charges.

He is being held in the Lorain County Jail.
