New search engine for Ohio public worker pay

CLEVELAND — The state treasurer’s website now features a search engine for looking up the salaries of Ohio public employees.

Visitors to ohiotreasurer.gov can plug in a first and last name to see what a state employee is making this year, or what mayors, teachers and other local government employees were paid as recently as 2010.

The Plain Dealer reports the searchable salary database was introduced on the website this week.

Republican Treasurer Josh Mandel says taxpayers work hard for their money and have a right to know where it’s going.

His office says redesigning the website cost $58,000. A spokesman notes that Mandel’s Democratic predecessor Kevin Boyce spent nearly $66,000 on making over the site during his time as treasurer.
