LORAIN — A man was fatally shot in Lorain overnight, according to Lorain police Lt. Mark Carpentiere.
Mario Whitfield, 24, of Lorain dropped dead at the scene as he was trying to flee a gunman, Carpentiere said.
Whitfield and another man were sitting outside on Westview Court about 4:40 this morning following a party when they were approached by a shooter or shooters, Carpentiere said. Westview Court is a short cul-de-sac in the area of West 24th Street and Leavitt Road.
Police aren’t releasing where or how many times Whitfield was shot, Carpentiere said.
Officers don’t have a specific suspect but are looking for a number of individuals who could be either suspects or witnesses, Carpentiere said.
Carpentiere said it’s unclear whether this shooting is related to other recent shootings in the area.
“We don’t know at this point, but we believe it’s a possibility,” Carpentiere said.
