Metro Parks plans announcement on rec facility to serve Amherst

AMHERST — The idea of a recreation and wellness center for the northwestern part of Lorain County isn’t dead.

The Lorain County Metro Parks Board of Commissioners will hold a 4 p.m. press conference today to unveil details of a plan for such a facility. The meeting was announced by the parks district Tuesday afternoon.

Metro Parks Director Dan Martin declined to get into specifics when reached for comment.

“I think people will be very excited by what they hear,” he said.

Martin declined to say whether the proposal calls for a ballot issue. Voters rejected on May 3 a combination $26 million Amherst school district bond issue-operating levy that Amherst voters rejected May 3 by a 57 percent to 43 percent margin.

While he would not talk about the new proposal in detail, Martin seemed to hint that it might not call for a ballot issue.

Martin also declined to say whether the new venture would call for partnerships between the parks and other entities, and who would be present at the meeting.
