Motorcycle rider in critical condition at MetroHealth

ELYRIA — A South Amherst man is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland following an accident overnight, according to Elyria police.

Scottie Scott, 53, was riding on Lowell Street when he was hit by a car at the intersection of Penfield Avenue, according to Lt. Chris Constantino.

Constantino said Jessica Garcia, 26, of Elyria, was turning left from Penfield onto Lowell Street, and Scott was westbound on Lowell Street.

According to Constantino, Garcia saw Scott’s headlights but apparently thought she had enough time to make the turn.

Scott was taken to EMH Regional Medical Center before being transferred to MetroHealth.. Garcia was not injured, and neither driver had any passengers, Slottie said.

A witness said Scott appeared to be going the proper speed, Constantino said.

The accident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed, Constantino said.
