ELYRIA — Alyson Sweany was sentenced today to 4 years in prison on endangering children charges stemming from the March 2010 death of her son, 3-year-old Jesse Crum Jr.

Sweany pleaded guilty to the charges earlier this year, although she and her attorney Paul Griffin, had mulled the possibility of trying to withdraw the plea.

An autopsy determined that the boy died from head and other injuries six days after he was taken by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Griffin said today those injuries were exacerbated by a blood platelet disorder.

Prosecutors have argued throughout the case that Sweany’s boyfriend, Peter Jones, abused Jesse. Jones hanged himself in June 2010, just days before he was scheduled to be sentenced on endangering children charges for a January 2009 incident in which Jesse was scalded by hot bath water.

Assistant Lorain County Prosecutor Laura Dezort said Sweany was well aware of who was abusing Jesse.
