Browns: Rookie DT Phil Taylor fined $7,500 for hit on Miami QB Chad Henne

BEREA – Browns rookie defensive tackle Phil Taylor was notified this afternoon that he’ll be fined $7,500 by the NFL for a late hit Sunday on Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne.

Taylor was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness for hitting Henne after he slid.

Taylor opened a FedEx envelope after practice, expecting to find a letter from the league. He was right.

“Any penalty on the quarterback, you’re going to get some FedEx,” Taylor told The Chronicle-Telegram. “It is what it is. I’ll appeal it.”

Does appealing do any good?

“Yeah,” Taylor said. “Just like a speeding ticket when you go to court. You get half.”

Taylor, the No. 21 overall pick in April, has been impressive through three games. His 18 tackles are tied for first among NFL defensive linemen, and he recorded his first sack against the Dolphins.

Other notes and observations:

** Running back Peyton Hillis (strep throat) returned to practice and was feeling better. He missed the game vs. the Dolphins.

Hillis was unavailable to the media after practice, but a team source said he’s engaged to be married.

** Every Browns player practiced for the first time this season, although some were limited.

** Right tackle Tony Pashos (ankle) sounded confident he’ll be able to make his season debut Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. If healthy, he’ll start.
