ELYRIA — A LaGrange man accused of forcing his way into the North Ridgeville home of a woman and sexually assaulting her has been indicted on rape, aggravated burglary and domestic violence charges.
Jeffrey Newcomb, 29, knew the victim, whose home police said he broke into on Aug. 14. The woman told police that she awoke to find Newcomb naked in her bedroom.
He allegedly jumped on top of her, ripped her clothes off and sexually assaulted her and may have used a cell phone or video camera to record the attack.
Both the woman, who told police she fought against Newcomb and tried to scream for help, and Newcomb are hearing-impaired. The woman also told officers that she signed for Newcomb that her children needed her.
The woman had felt threatened by Newcomb even before the attack, based on text messages he had sent her, and had propped chairs against the doors leading into the house before she went to bed, police have said. Police arrested Newcomb at his house about an hour after the attack was reported.
