North Ridgeville man suspected of murder in Cleveland arrested in California

A North Ridgeville man suspected of slitting a Cleveland woman’s throat is expected to be extradited from Northern California to Cleveland soon.

Charles Yonkings, 30, was being held Wednesday at the Humboldt County Jail in Eureka, Calif., after being arrested in nearby Arcata, Calif., charged with theft, according to Sgt. Sammy Morris, a Cleveland police spokesman. Yonkings faces an aggravated murder charge in the Aug. 19 slaying of Lynne Beardsley in a Cleveland apartment.

Morris said Wednesday he didn’t know the relationship between Yonkings and Beardsley or the possible motive for the killing.

Yonkings’ criminal record includes convictions for assault, persistent disorderly conduct, theft and violation of a protective order.
