The board of directors voted 9-2 to fire Gilchrist, who left his post as Lorain service director in August for the LCCAA post.
The firing comes on the heels of an election board complaint that stated that Gilchrist had voted in the wrong polling place and a recent police incident involving an argument between Gilchrist and a woman he was dating.
The voting complaint remains under investigation, and no charges were filed over the argument.
“Nobody doubted your ability to do the job, but there were too many extra issues involved,” board member Ron Nabakowski told Gilchrist. “The agency has had such as difficult time in the past, it’s got to get its reputation back.”
