Amherst Council member to run for commissioner’s seat

Van Treuren

AMHERST — Hoping to capitalize on the momentum of his re-election as an at-large city councilman, Republican Phillip Van Treuren is running for the county commissioner seat held by Democrat Ted Kalo.

Van Treuren, a 34-year-old husband and father of three, is a marketing executive. On his website, Van Treuren promoted his community roots, fiscal accountability, constituent service and military service in the Ohio Army National Guard. A Republican, Van Treuren promised bipartisanship if elected.

“I’ve proven to my constituents that I’ll work hard for them whether they’re Democrats, Republicans or independents,” he said. “I’ll never forget that our government is responsible to them, not the other way around.”
