17-year-old LifeFlighted from North Ridgeville crash in good condition

NORTH RIDGEVILLE — A 17-year-old driver was seriously injured around 2:40 p.m. Tuesday on state Route 83 near the Ohio Turnpike overpass when his Ford sedan struck a tractor-trailer. The Ford was northbound when it struck the driver’s side wheels of the southbound tractor trailer, according to Fire Capt. Lee Allen.

John Slatcoff of North Ridgeville was taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to North Ridgeville police Capt. Marti Garrow. He was listed in good condition this morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Allen said firefighters needed 15 to 20 minutes to extricate Slatcoff, who Allen said suffered a broken arm, broken leg and possibly fractured ribs. The tractor-trailer driver, Renne Caraballo, 49, of Cleveland, was unhurt.

Garrow said indications were that Slatcoff went left of center, causing the crash, and that he most likely was at fault and would be cited.
