Holiday closings, meals

Government throughout Lorain County, excluding fire and police departments, will be closed for the holiday, although the closures vary by community.

County offices will be closed Monday for the Christmas holiday as well as on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 for the New Year’s holiday.

Amherst city offices will be closed Monday as well as Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.

Elyria city offices will be closed Monday as well as  Jan. 2. City offices will be open 8 a.m. through noon Dec. 30. Trash pickup in the city will be delayed by one day both next week and the following week.

Republic Waste also will delay trash collection in the communities it serves by one day both next week and the following week.

Lorain city offices will be closed Monday as well as Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.

Sheffield government offices will be closed Monday and Jan. 2.

Vermilion city offices will be closed Monday and again on Jan. 2.

North Ridgeville city offices will be closed Monday for the Christmas holiday and Jan. 2 for the New Year’s holiday.

Avon city offices will be closed Monday.

Avon Lake offices will be closed Monday and Jan. 2.

Holiday meals

MOUNT OLIVET CHRISTIAN AND MISSIONARY ALLIANCE CHURCH, 626 Lorain Blvd., will serve breakfast 8 to 9 a.m. Sunday followed by morning worship service 9 to 10 a.m. The public is invited. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CHURCH, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria, will serve its annual Christmas Day dinner of roasted turkey and trimmings noon to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the church gymnasium.

FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 423 Washington Ave., Lorain, will host a free community meal beginning at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Santa Claus will also make an appearance at the event.
