The winter had been relatively snow-free, allowing governments to save money on road salt and work crews, but snow fell in some pockets of the state Monday.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport reported scattered flight disruptions as the Lake Erie region braced for up to a foot or more of snow. Lorain County received about an inch of snow. Authorities in southwest Ohio said snow contributed to multiple traffic accidents Monday. The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said icy conditions may have been a factor in a crash that killed a man and injured another person.

The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office in southeastern Ohio issued a Level 1 snow emergency that warned of icy spots and discouraged people from driving unless absolutely necessary.
