Man seriously injured after fight outside Lorain bar

LORAIN — An assault on Oberlin Avenue last night left a 28-year-old Lorain man with jaw and facial injuries.

William Brown, 28, of Lorain, was LifeFlighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland after being taken by ambulance to Mercy Regional Medical Center’s emergency room, according to a police report. His condition “severely deteriorated during transport to the hospital,” the report said.

Brown told police he works at Biggy’s Pub and was walking to the store to buy cigarettes when he was attaced. A message was left at the hospital seeking his current condition.

Taylor Thompson, 18, of Lorain, was charged with felonious assault, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest. He was transported to Lorain City Jail for processing.

According to the police report, Officer Matt Sedivy observed Brown on his back on the sidewalk in front of 1706 Oberlin Ave. with two black males on top of him, punching him repeatedly. The record states that Sedivy ordered the males to get on the ground. The suspects failed to comply and fled in opposite directions.

The report states that Sedivy pursued Thompson north on Oberlin Avenue before taking him into custody.

According to the report, Thompson identified a second suspect, but that individual has not yet been charged with a crime. Thompson claimed that Brown started the altercation after hitting the unnamed suspect. He also claimed that he possessed a video of the attack on his cell phone. Brown denied the allegations, and Sedivy was unable to locate the video on Thompson’s cell phone.
