Boy seriously injured by Jeep outside North Ridgeville school

NORTH RIDGEVILLE — An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by a Jeep about 5:35 p.m. Wednesday in front of North Ridgeville Middle School at 35895 Center Ridge Road.

North Ridgeville fire Lt. Mike Uhnak said the boy was taken to Fairview Hospital in Cleveland. Police Capt. Marti Garrow identified the boy as Damian Ashcraft, a student at the school. Fairview Hospital refused to release the boy’s condition, citing confidentiality laws.

Garrow said the driver of the Jeep is Ray Hoskins, 58, of North Ridgeville. Garrow said the investigation is still in its early stages and no determination has been made if Hoskins will face charges.

The boy was walking north when the eastbound Jeep struck him in the roadway, according to a news release from police Lt. Tony Lee.
