Teen dies following state Route 2 crash

ELYRIA — A car crash on state Route 2 around 6:15 p.m. Monday has claimed the life of an Elyria girl and left three others injured, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Alexandra P. Clifford, 16, died after being taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to the patrol.

Laniqua Lusane lost control of her westbound 1999 Ford Escort and veered into a ditch and several small trees just west of state Route 57 by the Ohio Turnpike split, according to news release from Lt. Travis Hughes, commander of the Elyria post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. Lusane, 17, of Lorain, and passengers Clifford and Tyrell Hicks, 18, both of Elyria, were taken to at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, according to Hughes.

A Metro nursing supervisor said late Monday night that she had no record of Lusane or Hicks being in the hospital.

Passenger Lucius A. Johnson, 19, of Elyria, was treated and released at EMH Medical Center in Elyria.
