Marge Daidone recognized at annual American Cancer Society Life Savers Ball

Marge Daidone said “something magical happens” when she can help a woman facing cancer renew her self-esteem and confidence.

Daidone, a cosmetologist who works in Lorain, spoke minutes after receiving this year’s Living Angel award Saturday evening during the American Cancer Society’s 26th annual Life Savers Ball.

The annual event took place at DeLuca’s Place in the Park in Lorain.

Daidone helped bring the nationally renowned Look Good … Feel Better program to Lorain County more than  20 years ago.

She said she teaches female cancer patients how to care for their skin, put on eyebrows and false eyelashes and makes them an appointment at the salon. Daidone works at Belleza Salon and Spa in Lorain.

The Look Good … Feel Better program is not just for women, and there are separate programs for men and teens as well, but Daidone said she mostly works with women.

During her speech, Daidone thanked the many patients she has worked with over the years.

“You all have touched my heart, and you are my heroes,” she said. “I have been truly blessed.”

The Living Angel Award recognizes a member of the community who has direct involvement in the field of cancer, either through working with patients or direct experience.

During his introduction, Dr. Alexander Zolli, who chairs the ball with his wife, Maria, described Daidone as someone who embodies “dedication, compassion and artistry.”

“We celebrate an unsung hero who seeks no attention or praise,” Zolli said. “A gifted professional who inspires much admiration.”

After the ceremony, Daidone said she was surprised and overwhelmed upon finding out she won the award. Along with Daidone, 10 previous Living Angel recipients were recognized.
