Body found in van called a ‘possible homicide’

COLUMBIA STATION — The death of a man found in a van Saturday in a driveway off state Route 252 by the Medina County Line is being investigated as a “possible homicide.”

Township resident Wayne Soos, 50, was found facedown in the back of his white 1995 Chevrolet van, according to Dr. Stephen Evans, Lorain County coroner. Evans said a resident saw the van in a neighbor’s driveway around 8 a.m. and found Soos. The neighbor said the van had not been in the driveway when he went to bed around 11 p.m.

Autopsy results are not available yet, but Evans said Soos, whose address he didn’t have Sunday, was not shot or stabbed.

“We’ll probably have more information in the next couple days,” Evans said.

The driveway was the last one in Lorain County and is near the intersection of East River Road and Boston Road, according to Fire Chief Raymond Anthony, whose department responded to the call. Anthony said he didn’t know the address.

Detectives from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office are investigating Soos’ death.

“It’s at the beginning stages,” Chief Deputy Dennis Cavanaugh said of the investigation. “They’ve got a lot of work ahead of them.”

Anyone with information on the death is asked to call Sgt. Don Barker at (440) 329-3708.
