LORAIN — Layoff notices to school employees were approved by the Board of Education on Thursday night to be sent out as part of Lorain Schools’ deficit -reduction plan.
Interim Superintendent Ed Branham said between 75 and 130 district employees will be laid off, saving about $2.6 million.
“These decisions are heart-wrenching,” Branham said. ” The bottom line is — the school district is broke.”
Branham said the exact number of layoffs will be announced at a special board meeting March 29 and the identities of those being laid off will be determined in April.
