Yvonne Newton Gardner

Yvonne Newton Gardner, 90, of Avon, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, March 18, 2012 in the New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a brief illness. She was born to the late Margaret (nee Minter) and Lanty Johnson on August 9, 1921 in Jodie, West Virginia. Mrs. Gardner moved from Huntington, West Virginia to Ohio in 1958. She settled in Lorain in 1962 and later made her home in Avon.

She was a member of the Church of the Open Door, Elyria. Mrs. Gardner enjoyed caring for her flower garden and collecting light houses.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by her sons, The Rev. Randolph L. (Paula) Newton of Byron, Illinois, and Jim (Leslie) Newton of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; her daughters, Pamela S. Newton of Wilmington, North Carolina and Ruth A. (Jack) Donnelly of Lorain; brother, Donald Minter; sister, Nona Irby of Huntington, West Virginia; step sons, Donald (Jeanne) Gardner and Douglas (Joyce) Gardner, both of Wellington; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by her husbands, Dillon R. Newton in 1969, Edward Heikila in 1980 and George E. Gardner in 2006.

The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, March 19, 2012 from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Ave., Lorain, OH 44052. Funeral service will be 11 A.M., Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in the funeral home, with The Rev. Randolph L. Newton officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 6 to 8 P.M. in the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel, 1159 Central, Barboursville, West Virginia, where funeral service will be 11 A.M., Thursday, March 22, 2012. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville.
