Ruby V. Thompson, 86, of Peterstown, West Virginia, formerly of Elyria, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, West Virginia. She was born January 13, 1926, at Fort Gay, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Charles McKenzie and Ella Crabtree McKenzie Blankenship.
Ruby was a member of the Peterstown United Methodist Church and was active in the Senior Citizen Center at Lindside, West Virginia. While in Elyria, she was a member of the First Assembly of God Church for many years, and was a volunteer at the Elyria Memorial Hospital, and was a member of the YMCA Exercise Group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jolliffe Maynard Thompson; three sisters, Shirley Blevins, Elizabeth and Opal McKenzie; two brothers, Rev. Charles Wray McKenzie and Franklin Damron; and one daughter, Mary Francis Thompson.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Joe Thompson and wife, Patricia of Ballard, West Virginia, Jolliffe Michael Thompson of Elyria, and William Maynard Thompson and wife, Sheryl of Kankakee, Ilinois; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces; and nephews.
A Visitation will be held from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M., Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, West Virginia. Graveside Services will be 11 A.M., Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations of sympathy be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
