Midview wrestling coach Don Caramell resigns

Midview High School wrestling coach Don Caramell, who coached the Middies to three West Shore Conference championships, has resigned.

The Middies won their WSC titles in 2009, 2011 and this year, with Caramell being named WSC Coach of the Year each of those seasons. He guided the Middies to a 31-3 WSC record during his five years and had an overall dual meet record of 43-4.

The 2009 WSC championship was the school’s first conference title since the Middies won the Erie Shore in 1986.

“My reasons are personal as I can no longer provide the time, energy and commitment that are required and deserved by the boys to assure that the program remains strong and successful,” Caramell said in a news release. “I am proud of what has been accomplished in the five years, and I wish the new coach and team all the best.”

Caramell, who graduated from Cleveland State in 2002, will continue to be a special education teacher at Midview.
