Highway Patrol identifies motorcycle crash victim

VERMILION TWP. — A Vermilion man has died following an accident between a motorcycle and a PT cruiser, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Paul Hering, 61, of Vermilion, was pronounced dead at the scene when a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser hit Hering’s Harley Davidson Soft Tail motorcycle.

The PT Cruiser was driven by 21-year-old Rebecca Schroyer of Berlin Heights. Schroyer was not injured in the crash.

The accident occurred at approximately 10:21 a.m. on state Route 60, between Trinter and Mason Roads.

According to State Highway Patrol, Hering was turning left into a private driveway when Schroyer failed to stop in time and struck the rear end of his motorcycle. Hering was then ejected from the motorcycle.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Department, the Vermilion Township Fire Department and North Central EMS were on the scene.

The crash is currently under investigation.
