John “Jack” Lee Mayak, 73, of Fremont, died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at his home. He was born December 11, 1938, in Lorain, to Anthony and Garnet (Cox) Mayak.
John was a 1956 graduate of Elyria High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years, beginning in 1957. On October 23, 1982 he married Nancy Michaels in Elyria, and she survives. John was a Stationary Engineer at Stanadyne and was a handyman for the Mid City Mobile Home Park, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Clyde Eagles and the Masons. John enjoyed trains and volunteered at the Mad River Railroad Museum in Bellevue. He also enjoyed lighthouses and Johnny Cash music.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Dan (Laurie) Mayak of Loveland, Ohio, Conni Mayak Sempsrott of Lebanon, Ohio, Cathy Lynn (Lance) La Burdy of Livonia, Michigan and Ted Landers of Raeford, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Nancy (Tom) Botamer of LaGrange.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael “Mick” Landers; and a sister, Sally Tonry.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 5, 2012, from 5 to 7 P.M., at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont. Services will be at the funeral home at 7 P.M. Reverend Roger Bishop will officiate. The Clyde Eagles will also be present before the service.
