2 men LifeFlighted after fire at Ohio Metallurgical

ELYRIA — A small gas fire at Ohio Metallurgical Service Inc. sent two men to the hospital today, according to John Gaydosh, owner of the business.

Gaydosh would not release the names of the two employees but said their injuries appeared to be “non-life threatening.” He said the incident is under investigation, but the “explosion” was small and due to gas that ignited in a furnace.

The Elyria Fire Department was called to the scene around 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Assistant Chief Tim Mitchell said the two men were flown to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center for their injuries, which he said were likely first and second degree burns. Mitchell said the two men walked out of Ohio Metallurgical Service, Inc. and appeared not to suffer any injuries other than the burns.

According to Ohio Metallurgical’s website, the company was established in 1947 and supplies heat-treating services.
