Police log for June 19, 2012

Lorain police

Friday, June 15

2:12 p.m. — 300 block W. Sixth St., two teenage boys charged with theft for stealing two bicycles from the bike rack at the Lorain Public Library. Both were released to adult guardians with paperwork to appear in Lorain County Juvenile Court. The bicycles were taken to the Lorain Police Department to await return to owner.

2:23 p.m. — East 37th Street and Palm Avenue, John Herring, 22, Lorain, charged with driving under suspension.

3:54 p.m. — 3500 block Canton Ave., resident reported a window-style air conditioning unit was pushed into her home and an unknown person made entry. Jewelry, a piggy bank containing approximately $62 in loose change and 20 prescription pills reportedly stolen.

11:33 p.m. — 1500 block E. 30th St., resident reported scratches found on his 1990 Cadillac DeVille sedan and suspects it was a juvenile from the neighborhood.

Elyria police

Thursday, June 14

1:30 p.m. — 300 block Washington Ave., Harry Stevenson III, 31, Elyria, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

2:43 p.m. — 100 block Caroline St., resident found 13 live shotgun shells on her property. The ammunition appeared to be old and rusted. It was taken to the Elyria Police Department and placed into evidence.

6:29 p.m. — 2600 block Midway Mall Blvd., copper wire reported stolen from the construction site for the new Hampton Inn. The 1,000 feet of copper wire was cut and removed from the walls on the second floor.

8:21 p.m. — 100 block Market Drive, Ismael Rivas, 52, Lorain, charged with theft after he was allegedly caught shoplifting at Home Deport.

Friday, June 15

12:40 a.m. — 600 block East River St., Richard T. Gutowski, 44, Elyria, charged with assault after becoming combative at EMH Medical Center in Elyria.

1:09 a.m. — Furnace Street and Hillsdale Court, 24-year-old man reported that he was walking when he was assaulted by three black males believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. He was treated at EMH Medical Center in Elyria for a head injury, and the assailants were not found by police.

Saturday, June 16

5:30 p.m. — 900 block Valley Blvd., Katherine Parsch, 23, same address, cited for having dogs at large. A neighbor said Parsch’s two pit bulls ran up her driveway and tried to get on the back porch and that her husband had to throw a chair at them to scare them away.

7:48 p.m. — 100 block Hawthorne Court, Jason Berger, 21, same address, charged with domestic violence. Berger’s father said after he kicked his son out of his home for not working or helping pay the bills, Berger sent him a text message threatening to kill him in his sleep.

9:32 p.m. — 300 block Washington Ave., Robert Cavins, 19, no address given, arrested and charged with obstructing official business. Police said Cavins tried to close the door on officers as they were attempting to arrest a friend of his on a burglary warrant.

Sunday, June 17

1:12 a.m. — 100 block Driftwood Court, $50 and a phone stolen from home. Resident said she left the back door unlocked because her daughter’s friend was visiting and was sleeping in a tent in the backyard and she wanted to give him access to the home.

1:51 a.m. — 500 block Cambridge Ave., Christopher Hepp, 49, same address, charged with domestic violence. Hepp’s girlfriend, who police said had swelling on her face, said he got drunk at a party and repeatedly punched her and threatened to fatally shoot her with a shotgun. Police confiscated the unloaded shotgun. Hepp, whom police said had an injured finger and cut on his left forearm, said his girlfriend attacked him and pushed him into a table breaking it. He denied hitting her.

2:38 a.m. — 100 block S. Logan St., Dennis Belfi, 43, same address, charged with domestic violence, but not arrested. Belfi’s girlfriend, who police said had a swollen left cheek, said he punched her in the face and back after an argument over one of her children. Police said Belfi left the home before they arrived.

6:52 a.m. — 1000 block Barbara St., John Mitchell Jr., 50, same address, charged with domestic violence. Mitchell’s girlfriend, whom police said had redness around her throat, said Mitchell held a knife to her throat during an argument after accusing her of infidelity. Mitchell denied the accusation.
