Clarence Emerick, 92, of Lorain, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born February 1, 1920 in Lorain, and had been a lifelong Lorain resident.
Clarence was a water plant superintendent for the City of Lorain, Water Treatment Dept., retiring in 1980 after 30+ years of service. He was a WW II veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Clarence was an outdoorsman and sportsman. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and archer, having entered many archery tournaments in his younger days. He was a former member of the Lorain County Beagle Club. For many years he was a beekeeper and raised wild turkeys. He especially enjoyed vegetable gardening. In his later years, his passion was to sit out on his back patio, sometimes from sun up until sun down, watching and feeding the deer and wild turkeys that would show up within a few feet of his house every morning and evening.
Clarence is survived by his sons, Dale (Suzie) Emerick of Key West, Florida, and Wayne (Nancy) Emerick of Lorain; daughters, Sherry (Adam) Kocak of Dublin, Ohio, and Joan Emerick of Lorain; grandchildren, Jared Emerick, Adam R. Kocak, and Joseph Kocak.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Agnes (nee McGuire) Emerick; his wife of 50 years, Irma (nee Barricelli) April 24, 2001; brother, Carl Emerick; and sister, Arbelle McCulski.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 25, 2012, from 6 until 8 P.M., at the Dombrowski-Riddle Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1939 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 9:30 A.M., at the funeral home, with Reverend Father Daniel O. Divis officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where the Lorain D.A.V. Chapter #20 will provide military graveside honors.
