Elyria police

Sunday, June 24
1:30 a.m. — 200 block Denison Ave., a man reported that an unknown suspect scratched several marks into his driver’s side paint.
12:45 p.m. — 300 block Oxford Ave., reported theft from auto.
2:22 p.m. — 1200 block Foster Ave., West Park Recreation Center, a man reported that an unknown suspect broke the passenger rear window of his Lexus and stole his mother’s purse from the floor. Police said there were two park cameras positioned to view the area, and the videos would be available Monday.

Monday, June 25
12:05 a.m. — 300 block Broad St., bicycle reported stolen.
2:03 a.m. — 500 block South Abbe Road, Monica N. Ashby, 28, 1800 block Middle Ave., arrested and charged with assault. Police said Ashby jumped on top of another woman and punched her in the face and head. Police said the woman had a large amount of hair pulled out of her head and rug burn marks on her elbows. A witness said Ashby fought with the woman earlier because she is jealous the woman is dating her ex-boyfriend.

Lorain police

Friday, June 22
7:04 p.m. – 5300 block Leavitt Road, Melissa A. Brown, 34, 100 block Gulf Drive, Elyria, arrested and charged with theft and possessing criminal tools. Rebecca E. Howell, 36, 200 block Cooper Foster Road, arrested and charged with theft. An employee of Super Kmart said both women had stolen  makeup and nail items. Police said Brown had taken her 11-year-old daughter with her, who had also concealed several items. Police said Howell’s 5-year-old son was with her as well. Both children were released to family members, and Howell and Brown were transferred to Lorain County Jail, according to a police report.

Sunday, June 24
12:57 a.m. —West 38th Street and Leavitt Road, Michael S. Redilla, 29, 800 block Tarry Lane, Amherst, arrested and charged with failure to control and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Police were dispatched to the area for a motor vehicle accident in which a car was in the ditch. The driver, Redilla, said he was drunk and apologized to police officers. Police said Redilla had one prior operating a vehicle while impaired conviction in 2004.
2:52 p.m. — 2300 block W. 20th St., reported theft from a motor vehicle.
3:50 p.m. —1600 block E. 31st St., Lamar I. Fisher, 19, same address, arrested and charged with aggravated menacing. Fisher’s ex-girlfriend and her stepfather said Fisher tried to attack the man with a machete. Fisher said he grabbed the weapon in self-defense.
7:36 p.m. —West 23rd Street and Hamilton Avenue, Jose Y. Valle, 19, Cleveland, arrested and charged with criminal damaging. A woman said Valle punched the windshield of her car, breaking it, then ran away. Police said the woman’s car was visibly damaged and found Valle later sweating and breathing heavily. Valle said he broke the woman’s windshield because she was yelling at him for not moving his bicycle off the road.
9:08 p.m. — 400 block W. 14th St., Calvin T. Carter, Jr., 43, 3200 block Livingston Ave., arrested and charged with domestic violence. Carter’s ex-girlfriend said Carter had punched and bitten her. Police observed no visible injuries to the woman.
