Car carrier catches fire on Ohio Turnpike

ELYRIA – A car carrier fire led to several damaged cars, according to the Berea post of the Ohio Turnpike Commission.

At 7:32 a.m. Tuesday, the Elyria Fire Department responded to the blaze that occurred near the Elyria exit. According to the Ohio Turnpike, the fire started after a driver of the Rapid Transport vehicle had blown a tire, although the cause of the fire is unknown.

Three fire trucks responded, and the fire was extinguished at 8:31 a.m. The Amherst Fire Department and the Carlisle Township Fire Department also assisted with the cars that had caught fire on top of the carrier.

The driver safely escaped, but several cars on the carrier were heavily damaged. The situation was cleared by Tuesday afternoon, and the Ohio Turnpike Commission said the incident led to no major traffic tie-ups.
