ELYRIA – Children playing with matches started a fire on 164 Fairlawn Ave. that caused $15,000 of damages, according to Assistant Fire Chief Ron Brlas.
The fire started at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and took the Elyria Fire Department just five minutes to contain. Although the fire was quickly extinguished, Brlas said the home is currently unlivable.
A resident of the home told firefighters she was outside working when the fire occurred. The woman’s two grandchildren were also at the residence with the woman, and Brlas said they were responsible for a fire that started in the rear bedroom.
No one was injured in the blaze, and the resident was waiting for her husband to return home Tuesday afternoon.
Brlas said he does not know if the residents have made other living arrangements.
