Dorothy Upton Ziegler Tegtmeyer, 88, of Wellington, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 at her home in Wellington, after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Tegtmeyer was born in 1923 in Toledo to Frank and Bessie Upton.
She graduated from New London High School, briefly attended Bryan College in Tennessee, and then married Lyle Ziegler of Brighton. In her early married years, she worked in her home as a loving wife and mother, but after Lyle’s death in 1962, she worked at the Herrick Memorial Library in Wellington for nine years, of which the last four years she was the children’s librarian. She then married William Tegtmeyer and enjoyed traveling and wood-carving with him. Her many other hobbies included painting, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting and may other crafts. For most of her life she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellington.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, William Tegtmeyer; a sister, Phyllis (Mark) Lyons of Wellington; daughter, Marlene (David) Hamilton of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania; two sons, Mark (Joyce) Ziegler, and Kyle (Jean) Ziegler all of Wellington; and two step children, Teddi (Jon) Benson of Wyoming, and Fred (Charlotte) Tegtmeyer of Nova. She also has 10 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyle in 1962; baby daughter, Sharon Jean in 1958; and her parents.
Friends and family will be received Friday, June 29, from 10 A.M. until 11 A.M. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, with services beginning at 11 A.M., with the Rev. Daniel Renno, her grandson in law officiating. A private family burial will take place at Brighton Cemetery.
