ELYRIA — An Elyria woman was arrested Sunday after police said she left a 3-year-old and a 2-month-old home alone while she drank at a bar.
Police were dispatched to apartments in the 200 block of Washington Avenue at 9:30 p.m. A neighbor told police she saw the 3-year-old standing out on a balcony in the rain. She said the girl had been locked out of the apartment, and no one answered the door when she knocked on the residence.
According to a police report, the child was Resha Logan’s niece, and the child had been staying with her. Police said Logan’s 2-month-old daughter was also in the home, sleeping in an adult bed, covered in blankets and sweating profusely.
Logan, 28, told police she left the children with her nephew while she was away for five minutes. Police said officers were on the scene for 10 minutes before Logan came home, and the nephew was not in the apartment.
Logan then told police she was at Ely’s Inn for 30 minutes with her mother, Vicki Fluker, who also resides in the apartment. Logan said she had “one beer and one shot” during that time. She said she returned home when a neighbor contacted her and told her police were at her apartment.
According to the report, a bartender at Ely’s Inn said when she came to work at 6:50 p.m., Logan was at the bar with Fluker. Police said the nephew, who Logan said was watching the children, reportedly left before Logan went to the bar.
Lorain County Children’s Services is investigating the incident, according to police.
Logan was transferred to Elyria City Jail and was charged with two counts of child endangering.
