Storms blowing through Lorain County today caused damage as homes were reportedly struck by lightening and some areas experienced heavy flooding.
Firefighters were on the scene as lightening caused smoke and fire at a home in Lorain, and Commodore Arms Apartments and Amherst Hospital were reportedly hit by lightening strikes as well.
Flooding was reported at the Lake Avenue bridge. The bridge was reportedly flooded with more than a foot of water.
Third Street, in front of the Chronicle-Telegram, experienced flooding with about a foot of water in the roadway, slowing down traffic.
Power outages also swept through Lorain County as downed power lines and trees caused rolling black-outs. North Ridgeville was hit the hardest, according to First Energy Corp.
8,746 customers reported power outages in North Ridgeville, according to First Energy’s website. The city of Avon suffered from 1,146 black-outs, and Elyria reported 417 outages.
Crews were working to access the damage and restore power this afternoon.
