Fourth of July events

Avon

The city will have a fireworks show after tonight’s Lake Erie Crushers game, which starts at 7:05 p.m. at All Pro Freight Stadium.

There will be a pregame party 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The tailgate party and buffet-style meal is $15. Tickets for the party and the game may be purchased by calling (440) 934-3636 or visiting www.lakeeriecrushers.com.

Grafton

There will be a parade and fireworks today in the village. The parade starts at noon from Reservoir Park with lineup beginning at 11 a.m. Fireworks will be this evening.

Lorain

Portfest at Black River Landing, which will include music by Rare Earth, is 3 to 10 p.m. today at Black River Landing,1355 Black River Parkway off Broadway and West 14th Street. Fireworks are at 10 p.m. For more information, call the Lorain Port Authority at (440) 204-2269.

North Olmsted

The Independence Day celebration in North Olmsted begins 10 a.m. today with a bike decoration contest.  Everyone rides away with a prize. The parade follows at 10:30 a.m. The route is from the North Olmsted Police Department parking lot on Dover Center Road, down Lorain Road and on to North Olmsted Park, 28114 Lorain Road.

Free hotdogs and beverages will be available at the picnic in the park. There also will be an inflatable slide and bounce house, as well as carnival games. Register for the bike contest by calling the recreation center at (440) 734-8200.

Oberlin

Fireworks are at dusk at Hamilton Street Recreation Park today in Oberlin. Concession stands offering snacks and light supper items will be available beginning at 6 p.m.

Starting about 6 p.m., Hamilton Street will be one-way-only westbound. People may park in the Hamilton Recreation Complex parking lot and at Splash Zone (after it closes) until those lots are full and people are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool.

The rain date is Friday.

Rochester

The 93rd annual Rochester homecoming will be today at Eagle Street Park and Fire Station. The event begins at 8 a.m. when the food tent opens. Parade registration is 9 to 10:15 a.m., and the parade begins at 10:30 a.m. The Historical Society will host an open house noon to 5 p.m. There will be contests for adults and children of all ages at 4 p.m. and bands at 4:30 p.m., rides and games at 5 p.m. and fireworks at the close of the evening. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
