No injuries reported in Amherst fire

AMHERST — No one was hurt in a house fire at 510 McIntosh Drive that was reported around 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

The fire, which took about 30 minutes to contain, started in a second-floor bedroom of the two-floor, wood-framed home, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jim Wilhelm.

Wilhelm didn’t have a damage estimate, but said it was “substantial,” and the house is uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal office.

A couple and their two children live in the home, but no one was home when the fire, which was reported by a neighbor, broke out.
