LORAIN — Police said an intoxicated woman nearly drowned Saturday after a West Salem man allegedly punched her for not having sex with him.
Police were dispatched to Beavercreek North Marina, 6000 W. Erie Ave., at 2:12 a.m. for an intoxicated female who was being pulled out of the water by a bystander.
The woman, Dora Chaszar, told police she was at a bar in the marina and had too much to drink to drive home. According to Chaszar, the bartender told her of a boat that had extra room to sleep in.
According to a police report, Chaszar said she took off her pants and laid down to go to sleep in the boat when the boat owner, Bruce Bryant, 46, returned to find her laying in bed.
Chaszar said Bryant tried to have sex with her, and when she refused, he pushed her out of the room and then punched her in the face. The force of the punch reportedly knocked Chaszar backward off the boat and into the water. Police said the woman was struggling to swim when a man grabbed her and pulled her onto the dock.
According to the report, Bryant told police he was asleep in his boat and woke up to find a purse and a pair of woman’s pants in his boat. He said he did not see or strike Chaszar.
Police said Chaszar’s front teeth were chipped, and Bryant was wearing a large ring that officers believed led to the injury.
Police said bystanders referred to Bryant as “Angry Bob” and said, “That is the last boat she should have slept in.”
Bryant was arrested for felonious assault and transported to Lorain City Jail. He was arraigned at Lorain Municipal Court at 10 a.m. Monday.
Police said Bryant had a prior conviction for carrying a concealed weapon.
