Teens injured in single-vehicle crash
ELYRIA TOWNSHIP — A one-vehicle crash sent a pair of South Amherst teens to area hospitals Saturday.
The accident occurred at 2:10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of state Route 2 near the Middle Ridge Road exit, according to the Elyria post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The vehicle, a 1994 Dodge Spirit, was being driven by Seth E. Rovere, 18, who lost control of the car, which traveled into the median where it rolled over once before coming to rest on its top, reports said.
Rovere was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he was still undergoing evaluation by medical personnel at press time, according to a nursing supervisor.
A passenger in Rovere’s car, Nathan M. Reicholf, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Regional Medial Center in Lorain where he was treated and released, according to hospital personnel.
A release from the patrol indicated neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to have been a factor in the crash.
Both teens were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, the patrol said.
Rovere was cited for operating a vehicle without reasonable control.
Police: Pregnant girlfriend’s door kicked in
LORAIN — A man who repeatedly threatened to force his way into the apartment of his pregnant girlfriend was charged with domestic violence and burglary.
Police were called to an apartment in the 1600 block of East 29th Street about 4:40 a.m. Saturday on reports of a burglary in progress. As they arrived, officers were told the male suspect who had kicked in a door but then apparently became frightened and drove off in a white Mercury Cougar, which was being followed by the mother of the man’s 20-year-old girlfriend.
Police said the older woman was screaming at the man, later identified as Jimmy Rivera, 29, of Lorain, and honking her horn as she chased after him.
Rivera was stopped at Pearl Avenue and East 31st Street and returned to the house where the daughter showed police several threatening text messages from Rivera in which he said he would break windows and kick in her door after he first caused a disturbance at her apartment about 3 a.m.
In addition to domestic violence and burglary, Rivera was also charged with driving under suspension.
Police reports said Rivera had a 2008 conviction for domestic violence.
