Police were sent to Fairview Hospital at 11:45 p.m. July 17 for a juvenile who was recovering from an assault.
According to a police report, the 16-year-old was missing a tooth, suffered a broken jaw and his left knee was cut.
Doctors reported that the boy would need surgery to fix his jaw.
The boy told police he was asked to meet an acquaintance, Kevin Ballou, 18, of Avon Lake, at West 23rd Street and Washington Avenue. When he arrived, he said he was assaulted by a man, who arrived with Ballou and punched him several times. The boy reported the man, later identified as Tony Anderson, 23, of Lorain, took $270 from him and got into a beige colored mini van driven by a heavyset female.
According to the report, the boy received $270 for his birthday and he believed his acquaintance set him up in the robbery. Lt. Mark Carpentiere said, however, police discovered that the incident was a “drug deal gone bad” and that the 16-year-old came to Lorain to buy marijuana.
Ballou and Anderson were later arrested — Anderson was charged with aggravated robbery and Ballou with complicity to aggravated robbery.
Anderson was arraigned today (Wednesday) and entered a plea of not guilty. He is being held in Lorain County Jail.
Ballou’s preliminary hearing will be Thursday (today).
