LORAIN — Erica Perez, the pregnant woman charged with seven counts of child endangering after her children were found living in filth, was appointed an attorney Wednesday in Lorain Municipal Court.

Attorney William Willis will represent Perez, who appeared during the brief court appearance Wednesday. Her pretrial was set for 1 p.m. Aug. 8.

Willis said he will look at police reports and talk to Perez’s family members before deciding on future action.

“I have not formed an opinion about (the case) yet,” he said.

Perez was arrested July 5 and her children were removed from her care after police were called to her Long Avenue neighborhood after a report that a drunken Perez was yelling at neighbors.

Perez’s case sparked an internal investigation of Lorain County Children Services. The lead caseworker handling Perez’s case has since resigned, and the supervisor was placed on administrative leave pending disciplinary action.
