ELYRIA — Friends of Cascade Park will celebrate its 30th anniversary this weekend.
The group, founded in 1982, works to promote and preserve the park.
Each year, the group hosts four walks, one of which is 10 a.m. Saturday. The guided walk will start at the 19-acre section of the park on the north end off West River Road and will go through the main park area to the West Falls observation deck. Walkers will return to the Nature Center, near the bottom of the sledding hill, for free refreshments. The walk, about a mile, will last an hour.
Sunday the group will have a table at the Parks and Recreation Department’s “Party in the Park” in Ely Square starting at 6:30 p.m. At the table, the public can pick up a brochure explaining the history of the friends group and its mission.
Highlight of the Party in the Park will be a free concert by an Akron band LaFlavour on the stage near the park fountain.
