Briefs: Elyria softball all-stars make state final

BOARDMAN — Faith Hamilton picked up the win, allowing just four hits over six innings while striking out nine, as the Elyria 10-11-year-old Little Legaue softball all-stars beat Clay 13-4 on Saturday.
Emily Hyer was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Haley Schulz was 2-for-2 and scored four runs.
In the winners bracket final, Elyria trimmed Boardman 8-7. Hyer and Schultz scored in the sixth inning on Cassie Miller’s two-run double to take the lead.
Schultz picked up the win, tossing six innings. Hyer went 4-for-5, Schultz was 3-for-3, as was Gabby Zerbini. Alexis Petrisko knocked in two runs.
Elyria plays for the state championship today at 3 p.m. in Boardman against either Boardman or Clay, the losers bracket winner.

North Ridgeville’s Gerome takes second

LAFAYETTE TWP. — Nicole Gerome finished second overall in her age division Monday at the Southwest Junior Golf Tour’s season-ending Founders Cup Championship at Medina Country Club.
The North Ridgeville resident shot a 4-over 76 (38-38) to finish two strokes off the pace in the 13-15 age group. Avon Lake’s Kaitlin Rose was sixth with an 88, while Anna Schatschneider of Avon placed ninth after a round of 96.
In 14-15 boys play, Harris Vonderau of Columbia Station fired an 82 to take sixth.
