Naked man caught running around downtown

ELYRIA – A naked man led police on a chase through the city as officers tried to stop him from running to Ely Park.

Police said Robert Hill, 22, of Cleveland, was completely nude and was walking in the area of Middle Avenue and 8th Street at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. When officers confronted Hill, he ran from the Elyria police and Lorain County Sheriff’s officers.

Hill was eventually stopped on 3rd Street and Middle Avenue when Elyria police officer James Van Kerkhove pushed him to the ground. Hill was then handcuffed and transferred to Elyria EMH Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

According to a police report, Hill looked “very much out of it,” but Lt. Andy Eichenlaub could not say why the man was naked.

Hill issued a citation for public indecency and advised of his court date at 10 a.m. Wednesday. A spokeswoman at EMH could only say he was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon.
