Breakfast at Wimbledon? Forget that. Try tea with Tianna. That’s right, Elyria’s own Tianna Madison begins her Olympics dream by running in the 100-meter dash preliminaries in London at 5:40 a.m. EST today.
Madison, 26, is making her first appearance in the Olympics. She qualified by finishing second at the U.S. Olympic Trials on June 23 in Eugene, Ore. That finish also assured her a spot in the 400-meter relay.
The 2005 World long jump champion and nine-time high school state champion rejuvenated her career in the past few years by finding a new coach, refocusing her efforts and concentrating on the sprints.
If she advances in the 100, she’ll race again at 2:05 p.m. in Round 1. The semifinals and finals are set for Saturday at 2:35 p.m. and 4:55 p.m.
The 4×100 relay won’t be run until Aug. 9 with the finals Aug. 10.
