John K. Grant, 85, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Mercy-Allen Hospital in Oberlin, unexpectedly. Mr. Grant was born in Garret, Pennsylvania, March 11, 1927, the son of the late Belmont E. and Evelyn M. (nee Herwig) Grant.
He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, especially football and spending time with his grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II receiving the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater an the Victory Medal. Mr. Grant was a retired maintenance department worker at CEI, Avon Lake. Following 11 years of service, he retired in 1992. He was also a member of the CEI retiree’s Lunch Group. He also worked for the former American Shipbuilding for 18 years as a machinist.
He is survived by a daughter, Dottie J. (Craig) Cooper of Avon; grandchildren, Andrea Nichols, Jeremy Grant, Michael Cooper; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria M. (nee Zajac) Grant, in 2008; a son, Kenneth J Grant; sisters, Mary Harned, Dorothy Blaney, Ruth Hoover; and brothers, Roy Grant and James Grant.
Friends may call Sunday, August 5, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. A Celebration of his Life will be held Monday, August 6, 2012, at 10:30 A.M., in the funeral home. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Avon, with full military honors provided jointly by American Legion Post 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.
