Today, to coincide with Madison’s first bid at an Olympic medal in the 100-meter sprint, local family and friends of the track and field star will gather 2 to 5 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings in Elyria for a watch party.
The event was put together soon after Madison finished second in Friday’s qualifying heat with a time of 10.97. The time qualified her for today’s semifinal race at 2:35 p.m.
If she finishes with one of the eight fastest times among the 24 semifinalists, she will advance to the finals at 4:55 p.m.
Councilman Marcus Madison, D-5th Ward, and cousin to Tianna Madison, said the watch party was thrown together with details released via Facebook because the family wants to share their excitement with the entire city.
“It’s our hope that we, as a city, can be united in celebrating this great accomplishment for Tianna,” he said. “We want to share this moment with our friends and as a family we want to be together.”
The family is keeping Elyrians up to date from London with a Facebook page created just for the trip: Madison Family on the Road to London.
